The Walk: Wisdom
9/13/15

This Sunday we continue in our series “The Walk” a series on the book of James; and we will be discussing Wisdom. James lets us know that there are two kinds of wisdom. There is an earthly wisdom and a heavenly wisdom. James states in chapter three, “13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. 15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.”

He starts by telling us if we are wise and understand God’s way we will show it with the way we live our lives. However, if we are driven by our own selfish ambition, jealousy, envy lying and boasting we aren’t living through God’s wisdom, but that which is from the evil one. In order for us to live according to God’s wisdom we should be demonstrating these attributes he lists in verses 17 and 18 of chapter 3, “17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. 18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

We are called to be pure, peace seekers, gentle, submissive, and humble. That we will be full of mercy so we may sow a harvest of righteousness, this is living in and through God’s wisdom. So what does this look like and how do we do this better in my everyday life? The answer would be come out and join us Sunday morning starting at 10am, we will delve into these questions, and hopefully leave understanding our call to live according to the wisdom that comes from above.
