The Walk Series
“Temptation”
July 26, 2015
This Sunday we will be continuing our series entitled the Walk, and will be discussing “Temptation.” In James 1:13-18, it states,
“13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”
Why is it that we are so quick to blame God for things that we get our selves into? From the very first time sin was introduced we blamed God for our problems. Adam when confronted by God about why he was hiding and who told him he was naked, and He asked Him did you eat what I told you not too, Adam’s response was, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Do you see that, the woman YOU put here, in a way it’s us saying God you are at fault if you wouldn’t have put this situation in front of me I wouldn’t have been tempted. What we fail to realize is that it is our evil desires that are dwelling within us that keep pulling us away from God. The trap from here is that our desire of the flesh leads us to sin and as we know from the story of Adam and Eve is that the penalty of sin is death. The good news in all of this is God isn’t the one that tempts us; he is actually the only one that provides an out, an escape plan. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 it says, “13 No temptation[c] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[d] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[e] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” God is always working to find you a way out of Satan’s grasp. We are going to delve deep into the topic of temptation on Sunday and we would love for you to be there, we would also love for you to know that , “17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Join us Sunday 10 am Egchurchofchrist.org
