The Walk: Rejection

August 16, 2015

James 1:27-2:13

Rejection. Rejection is something that we have all gone through or will go through at some point in our lives. What’s crazy is that we all know how it feels to be rejected and yet it doesn’t stop us from rejecting others, especially those that are in a lower standing than we are. James in the 1st chapter verse 26 and 27 says, “26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” Some translate pure religion into Gods word dwelling within you! If the word of God is in you, then you will care for the orphans and the widows. Orphans and widows in the time of James were the lowliest of people, they were fatherless kids or husbandless women, they didn’t have anything or anyone to make them of “worth”, so they were treated as worthless. Think for a moment on how many times you pass the person that you feel is unworthy of your time? Or better yet think about how you would treat someone of acclaim if they rolled into church one day verses how you would treat the tattered, beat down by life, homeless man? We show rejection in many ways, and the biggest is favoritism. We pick and choose who is worthy of hearing the message of God, or at least who’s worthy of hearing it around you. This Sunday we are going to delve in deep to rejection and how we are called to MERCY, mercy that triumphs over judgment! Come join us, be a part of a family that loves and cares for you.
