The Walk: Justice
10/11/15

Our world is full of injustices, things that we can feel so opposed to that we ask God, why are you allowing this to happen? However I want us to not think of this as something new, because it has been happening since the fall of man. 1 Peter 4:12-13 says, “12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”

God calls us to be patient in our suffering and to know that he will be just and that he hears our cry. This Sunday, as we continue our series “The Walk”, we will be discussing God’s Justice. In James 5:7-11 he tells us, “7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. 9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! 10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”

We are called to be patient, and in our perseverance the Lord will show us how full of compassion and mercy He is. We will know that our cries are not falling upon deaf ears and that He longs for us and that He will give us our heavenly reward as a gift of trusting and waiting for Him. Isaiah 30:18 tells us, “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore He will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him!”

Join us this Sunday as we discuss what it looks like to wait upon the Lord and to wait for His justice in our lives.
