The Power of God Shows Up in Our Weakness

3 I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when he deals with you; he is powerful among you. 4 Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power. – 2 Corinthians 13:3-4

Have you ever noticed that throughout scripture God finds weak people to do his business? My favorite of these people would be Moses. Moses was on the run, because out of anger, he killed a man. While Moses was hiding away, God appeared to him in the form of a burning bush. At this time God asks Moses to be the leader of His people; to lead them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. To many a direct invitation from God, especially in the form of a bush that was on fire but wasn’t being consumed, would have motivated us to just go out and do what was asked of us. However that isn’t what Moses did.  Moses started to list out all of the shortcomings he had and tried to talk God out of choosing him for the job. Moses thought that his weaknesses were too great and that he wouldn’t be the right choice to lead God’s people. Moses was stuck in his fear and failings. Finally God had enough.  After multiple attempts to motivate Moses, God gives him a command to GO and DO; get out there and trust me and I will give you everything you need and you will do well.

Guess what everyone, God made you.  He knows you have things you struggle with, He knows you may not be the best speaker, the best athlete, the most organized, or the most financially sound, etc. But what He does know is that even in spite of all those weaknesses His strength will be even more evident in you when you allow Him to work through them. Moses ends up being called not just a prophet of God but a friend to God.  He is one of the only person in scripture to get a glimpse of God, and he gets a title from God of being the most humble man to walk the earth. God loves working through weak people.  Here is what the apostle Paul says about it in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, …“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness. So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Don’t be afraid of your weaknesses.  Instead, admit your weaknesses, be content in your weaknesses, be honest about your weaknesses and share them, and finally allow yourself to see God’s Glory that shows up in our weaknesses.
