Lead Me to the Cross: Earth to the Cross
3.6.2016

 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,”[f] but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 2 Peter 2:24-25

As we walk together towards the Easter message, the message of a risen savior, we first need to discuss a few things so we can truly understand the impact of what it took for Christ to be raised from the dead. The first item we discussed last week was the importance of knowing that Jesus left heaven to come to this earth. You have to really let that sink in for a minute; Jesus would leave the glory of heaven to be born humbly into a world where sin is so prevalent, to then submit to the Father’s plan, which would ultimately lead to death, and not just any death but one on the cross, all of which is for us. How amazing is that, that we are loved that much. Philippians 2:5-8 breaks this down even further and also just so happens to cover our thought for this Sunday. This Sunday we will be covering the process of Jesus coming to earth and each year of life was created for the porpose of leading him to the Cross. Here is what it says:

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!”

Think about it Jesus comes to this earth and mixes things up, He gives examples of the true nature of who God is and how He wants us to be. With each miracle, lecture, dinner with sinners, rebuking or any other method Jesus used to teach God’s will, people had two responses to them. The first response was anger. This happened because their way of life was challenged, their authority questioned, and their theology expanded because of that they despised Him and plotted to kill Him. However, the second response was hope. They believed that Jesus was truly the messiah, delivered to save Gods people. This week we will be talking about that message one that still divides us today, those who are challenged and willed with anger and those who are challenged and are filled with hope.  It would be great to see you as we delve into this topic as we explore the importance of Jesus’ ministry on this earth and how and why it lead him to the cross, the impact that has for us, and how that is still important for us to talk about today, 1000s of years later.  You should put it on your calendar to join us this Sunday at 10am!
