Songs for the Road: Songs of Joy
November 1, 2015
Isn’t it amazing how a song can bring you to a place of happiness? Or maybe it brings you to a memory, or to a place! Music is so powerful. As we continue into our new series “Songs for the Road”, we will be discussing psalms 122, calling it Songs of Joy! What is your happy song? Can you think of it, you know the song that can bring you out of a funk and put a smile on your face? We all have one, and so did the Israelites, think about it , your on your way to Jerusalem for Passover, a time of reflection and you sing this song, a song of rejoicing, a time to stand with family and pray for security and peace.
(PSALM 122)
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”2 Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem.3 Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together.4 That is where the tribes go up— the tribes of the Lord—to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel.5 There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.”8 For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.
I hope we have something similar, a song that brings us joy when being surrounded by Gods family, each and everyday we have an opportunity to remember how blessed we are and how joyful we should be as a family in Christ!
