The Walk: Prayer
James 5:13-20
10/18/15
We all face difficulties in our lives. We have ups and downs and sometimes we even feel a bit sideways. When this happens what do you do to get right? Well James tells us something we should try. He says, “13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
When you are building a relationship with God and you are spending more time in conversation with him you will find a way to be content in your current circumstance. When you are feeling down, sing a song. When you are in trouble, pray. When you are sick and you don’t have the energy to muster up enough on your own, ask the elders to pray over you and anoint you with oil. If you want healing from this world of sin that we are in you should start by giving them up to God in prayer and being thankful he hears you.
James follows up that paragraph by stating, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” When we are living in righteousness and are Holy as He is Holy our prayers are POWERFUL and EFFECTIVE! They become that way when we believe. If we rewind and go back to the first chapter of James he states, “5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”
Lets build our faith together. Let us prayer with power that only comes from the Savior. Why don’t you join us Sunday as we finish our series “The Walk” and discuss this great power of prayer further?
