The Walk: Faith and Deeds
August 23, 2015
James 2:14-26
What saves you? Is it works? Is it Faith? Are we thinking about this too much? The Bible lets us know that we are saved through our faith and belief in the Son of God, Jesus Christ; it is why we are asked when we are baptized, “do you believe that Jesus is the son of God and that He died and Rose on the 3rd day for the Forgiveness of your sins?” Faith is what we base our salvation upon but the thing is, as we will learn in James, that a “Genuine Faith produces Righteous Actions.”
James 2:14-17 states this. “14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Just to say that we believe in God and that he will provide and yet are unwilling to put forth Godly action towards those who need it are we really living in faith? Are we really trusting God? Later in the chapter James says this in verse 19, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” Knowing there is a God and believing in that is one thing, but summiting to him through your actions is something completely different! This is Sunday we will be taking the journey discussing how you can’t help but to have Godly actions if you have a true genuine faith in the Lord. Join us and be a part of a family striving to reach God at a new and more exciting level each day!
